Phoebe Cummings 'This Was Now' at Wolverhampton Art Gallery

Phoebe Cummings solo exhibition ‘This Was Now’ is on at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 7th March until 27th September 2020.

Cummings uses the exhibition to explore ceramics potential as a time-based medium and seeks to understand the multiple ways we might record transient sculpture. Currently one of the most interesting and important British ceramic artists, Phoebe Cummings will create a new work in raw clay within the gallery space, which will continue to evolve over the course of the exhibition.

The gallery will operate as a site of live production and research where the public are invited to be active in the process of recording the changing work through drawing and writing, which will also grow and accumulate across the gallery wall. An album of these public responses will be created as a permanent trace of the project, whilst the sculpture itself will be recycled and the clay taken forward in future works.
